I thought learning to code meant you had to be a math genius

For the longest time, I avoided trying to code because I was terrible at math in school. I figured you needed to be some kind of wizard with numbers and equations. Then, about two months ago, I started a free Python course on a site called Codecademy. The first project was just making a simple text-based game, and I realized it was more about logic and breaking down problems, not doing complex math. I built a little number-guessing game in maybe an hour, and it just clicked. Has anyone else had that moment where a big fear about coding turned out to be totally wrong?

Totally get that. My high school math grades were so bad I thought coding was off the table. Turns out you mostly just need to know how to Google stuff and not lose your temper at the computer.

Yeah that's a super common roadblock. Most coding is just telling the computer what to do step by step, like writing a recipe. The math fear keeps a lot of good people out for no reason.

That recipe idea is spot on. A friend of mine was a baker who was scared to try coding because of the math. She realized her recipes were just step by step instructions, like you said. She started writing simple programs to track her baking times and it clicked. I bet @the_thea would appreciate that kind of start, too. It really is more about clear thinking than complex math.
