Hot take: my neighbor tossed a bag of aluminum cans in the trash right in front of me in Boise
I started to say something and he cut me off with "it's one bag, it doesn't matter," and that line has been stuck in my head for two days. How do you respond to someone who genuinely thinks their small choice is invisible?
Oh man, that "it's just one bag" line kills me. Had a guy at my apartment building do basically the same thing, tossed a whole bag of cans and a bunch of cardboard right in the dumpster while I was carrying my recycling out, and when I said something he goes "relax, it's not like I'm dumping oil in the river." Like, cool, so the bar is on the floor now? The thing that gets me is it's never just one bag, it's one bag every single week from every single person who thinks the same way, and that adds up fast. You can't really argue someone out of that mindset in the moment, but you also can't just let it slide or they'll keep doing it forever.
