Picked the $45 car cover over the $180 one for my Datsun, and I keep second guessing it

I park my 1978 280Z in a carport in Tacoma, so it's covered but dust still blows in off the street. Two months back I stood in the parts store comparing a cheap $45 cover and a fancy $180 one and went with the cheap one because the car needs a fuel pump more than it needs a fancy blanket. The $45 cover already has a tear at the driver mirror from the wind, and I found a little dust film on the roof last weekend. Was that a dumb call, or is a cheap cover you replace every year actually smarter than one nice one?
