Changed my mind about car covers after visiting a barn find in Ohio

Went to look at a '69 Mustang stored in a dirt floor barn near Columbus. The owner used a cheap tarp that trapped moisture and the roof was pitted. Now I'm thinking a breathable cover might matter more than I used to believe. Has anyone else seen damage from tarps that made them switch?

Funny you mention Ohio barn finds. My buddy had a '72 C10 under a blue tarp in his grandfather's shed outside Dayton for like nine years. When he finally pulled it out, the tarp had fused to the paint in some spots. Took the clear coat right off the tailgate. We spent a whole weekend with a heat gun and goo gone trying to fix it. He still uses a cheap cover but he puts pool noodles under it now to keep it off the metal. The moisture thing is real though. I've seen more rust from trapped condensation than from rain itself.

Does he still have to deal with mice nests in the air filter box? I swear those critters love old truck engine bays more than the owners do.
