Wrote off POR-15 as hype for years, then my floor pan sat through a Ohio winter and stayed solid
For years I figured rust paint was just a way to hide rot before flipping a car, so I never touched the stuff. A guy down the road in Dayton showed me his 66 Mustang fastback, he had brushed that coating on his floor pans back in 2019 and they still looked the same after 4 salty winters. So I tried it on the rear pans of my 72 Chevelle, did the whole prep with the metal etch and two thin coats. Two winters later I pulled the carpet for a different job and the metal was still black and tight, no bubbles, no soft spots. Now I am wondering what else I wrote off too fast. What product did you guys ignore for years and then have it actually work?
Funny how the stuff we swear is snake oil ends up being the only thing holding our junk together. I did the same thing with plain old Fluid Film, laughed at the guys spraying sheep fat on their trucks, then watched my buddy's frame survive five salt baths while mine turned to lace. Guess the lesson is we should stop trusting our gut and start trusting the guys with rusty knuckles.
