Hot take: rust repair on my 66 Mustang floor pans was NOT the hard part, lining up the doors after was
Everyone says the welding is the worst job on a classic. I spent 11 hours over two weekends cutting and welding new pans in my 66 coupe in my garage in Boise and honestly it went fine. Then I bolted the doors back on and nothing lined up, gaps off by a quarter inch at the top and the damn thing would not latch. Took me three more weekends of shimming body mounts and chasing twisted metal before it closed clean, way longer than the welding ever did. Anyone else get blindsided by panel gap work after a big repair, or is it just me?
Man, a quarter inch gap is barely anything on a 60 year old car, those things were never perfect from the factory anyway lol. Shims and mounts settle on their own after a few drives, so chasing every gap to dead nuts seems like a lot of weekends for bragging rights. As long as it latches and the weather strip seals, I say send it.
