Update: I thought all my old photos were lost after my laptop died in 2022.

I used to believe cloud backup was a waste of money and just stored everything on one hard drive. After my main laptop crashed, I lost about 3 years of pictures from my kid's early school events. A friend told me to try a data recovery service, and they actually got most of it back for $200. Now I pay for an automatic backup service and keep copies on two separate drives. Has anyone else had a close call with data loss that made them switch their backup plan?

My 2018 hard drive crash taught me that lesson.

That same scare finally got me to set up a proper backup system too.

What backup system did you end up going with? I just use an external hard drive and a cloud service now, it feels way less stressful.
