Installed carpet in a tiny 8x10 bedroom yesterday and the customer actually cried happy tears when she walked in

She said it reminded her of her grandma's house from the 80s and asked if I could come back next month to do her hallway, which is the first time someone has booked me again before I even finished packing up the knee kicker.

...which is wild because my last carpet job was for this lady who specifically wanted "the ugliest brown shag you can find" so her cats would have something to puke on that matched the decor. I found some remnant from 1978 that looked like a woolly mammoth died on it and she tipped me twenty bucks. Said it reminded her of her childhood home where she learned to walk by gripping the shag like it was a tar pit. Sometimes you just hit that nostalgia nerve and people can't help themselves.

Bet your bottom dollar that cat puke blended right in with that woolly mammoth special.

Wow, that's honestly kind of beautiful in a really weird way. I mean, finding a carpet that perfectly matched your memory of learning to walk by holding onto shag like it was a tar pit is oddly specific but also incredibly sweet. It's wild how a floor can hold so many memories for people, even if those memories involve cat puke. I'm glad she tipped you well, that lady sounds like she knew exactly what she wanted and appreciated you getting it right. Did she ever tell you what made her finally decide to replace that old carpet?
