Showerthought: a duckbill deck washer saved my cedar boards and I found out why at a lumber yard in Boise
Was at a yard in Boise grabbing 5/4 cedar and the guy behind the counter asked what I was fastening with. I said regular screws, and he told me a deck screw with no washer crushes the wood fibers and lets water sit. He said their crew switched to duckbill washers on a 240 sq ft deck and got no pull-throughs in 4 winters. So I tried them on a repair job and not one board split. Anyone else using washers like this or am I late to the party?
