My old boss in Tacoma swore by using a dab of toothpaste to fill nail holes before paint

I thought he was nuts until I tried it on a small patch of trim in a rental unit last week. It dries fast, sands smooth, and the paint covered it perfectly with zero bleed. Has anyone else used a weird household item as a quick fix that actually worked?

It's amazing how many old-school tricks work better than the "proper" stuff you buy.

Totally get where you're coming from, @spencer_coleman. Used to buy all the fancy cleaners until my grandma showed me vinegar and baking soda for the sink. That stuff cuts through gunk better than anything in a spray bottle. Same with using a bar of soap to stop a door hinge from squeaking. The simple fixes just work and save a ton of cash.

Remember my dad fixing a wobbly table leg with a folded matchbook? Worked for years. Feels like companies want us to forget we can solve things ourselves so we keep buying. That vinegar and baking soda combo is a powerhouse, cuts grease like magic. Honestly makes you wonder what ELSE we're overpaying for when the answer is already in the cupboard.
