DAE catch guys cutting stair stringers with the crown facing the wrong way?
Had to redo a full run of 14 steps on a deck job in Bakersfield because the last guy crowned the stringers down instead of up. You put the crown up so it fights the load, not bows with it, and by the time the treads went on the bounce was already there. How are you all checking crown before you lay out your cuts?
Are you sure that's really what caused the bounce? I've seen plenty of decks where the stringer crown was down and they held up fine for years, so I'm not sold that flipping it is some magic fix. Crown up does help the stringer fight the load, sure, but a 14 step run bouncing usually means the wrong lumber, too much span, or weak hangers, not just which way the grain humps. Sounds like you found one bad setup and blamed the crown when half the issue was probably something else in the framing.
