Went to a massive corporate job fair yesterday and nobody asked about skills

Every single booth just wanted my LinkedIn QR code and a handshake, zero questions about what I actually do. Has anyone else noticed hiring events turning into networking photo ops?

Feels like everything's turning into a shallow transaction lately, even stuff that used to be about real human connection. Makes you wonder if anything is actually genuine anymore or just data points.

Wait, they didn't ask about your actual work experience at all? That is wild. I went to one a few months back and it was the same garbage - just people scanning QR codes and handing out branded pens like it was a convention. It feels like these events are more about building a database of contacts than finding people who can actually do the job. Honestly made me feel like just another number in their system instead of a real candidate.

Honestly, it's like these companies read a handbook on how to make people feel worthless during a job search. I came across a study a few weeks back that said most recruiters spend under ten seconds looking at a resume before they decide if someone is worth talking to. So it makes total sense that these events are just about collecting data rather than actually interviewing anyone. Tbh, the whole QR code scanning thing just feels like a way to pump up their applicant numbers for investors or something. Ngl, it's a bummer because you show up ready to talk about your skills and all you get is a branded pen and a pat on the back. At this point, I'd rather just apply online and skip the whole dog and pony show.
