Thought networking events were a waste, then one at a local coffee shop proved me wrong

I rolled my eyes when my coworker dragged me to a meetup at Brew & Bean in Austin last Tuesday. Figured it would be just a bunch of awkward elevator pitches. But I actually landed a solid lead for a part-time gig that fits my schedule. Has anyone else had a random event change their mind about the whole networking scene?

I can barely handle small talk with my own family, so this is a real win.

Oh man, I've got mixed feelings about those things. Most of them are a total snooze fest with people just passing business cards like it's a poker game. But I had one at a taco joint that was surprisingly decent - met a guy who knew a guy who helped fix a shipping mess at my warehouse. So yeah, once in a blue moon the stars align and something useful actually happens. Glad you got a good lead out of it.

Seems like a lot of fuss for maybe meeting one useful guy out of a hundred. Not sure that's really worth putting on a clean shirt for.
