I picked a job with less pay but a better boss, and it was the right call

I had two offers last fall: one paid $15,000 more a year, but the manager seemed really cold in the interview. The other paid less, but the boss was someone I clicked with right away. I went with the lower-paying job because I wanted a good place to learn. After six months, I'm way happier and have already gotten a small raise. Has anyone else chosen a team over a bigger paycheck and how did it work out?

Oh man, that cold manager interview is the biggest red flag there is. I can just picture them staring at their watch while you talk. That extra cash would just turn into your "I hate my life" fund, spent on takeout and stress shopping. You totally dodged a bullet. A good boss who actually teaches you is worth way more in the long run.

Read a study that said bad bosses are the top reason people quit. You can't put a price on not dreading work every day. Sounds like you made the smart move.

Exactly right, @the_willow. A bad boss doesn't just ruin your day, it can wreck your mental health over time. The cost of staying in a toxic job is way higher than a paycheck. Getting out is self-preservation.

Wait, "top reason people quit" for real? I always thought it was low pay or something. That's crazy if a bad boss beats out money problems. Makes you wonder why companies don't train managers better. Do they just not care if people leave?
