I paid $300 for a resume writing service and it got me three interviews, but my friend says it's a total scam.

I was stuck in my job search for months, so I spent the money and landed interviews at two tech startups and a marketing firm, yet my friend insists I just got lucky and that these services never work.

Three interviews from a dead stop is a solid result for $300. Your friend's luck theory doesn't hold up if the resume was the only thing you changed.

Yeah but "the real test" is the interview. That's always been the test. Paying someone to write your resume just gets you to the starting line, which you could probably do yourself. It feels like we're making a basic step way too serious.

Can you really put a price on finally getting your foot in the door?

Honestly, your friend is missing the point. You paid for a tool that got you past the first hurdle, which is the whole goal. The real test is if you can close the deal in those interviews now.
