Serious question, is the 'canceled' label permanent for some people?

I was thinking about that chef who got canceled 2 years ago for faking his farm-to-table sourcing. He posted a comeback video last month and it got 50k views but mostly people calling him out. I get that he lied, but he also lost his restaurant and did a full apology tour. How long do we figure someone stays in the penalty box before they get a second shot? Has anyone seen a brand or person actually come back from being canceled for real?

Saw a podcast where they talked about how Louis CK basically came back after a few years of keeping his head down and doing smaller shows. Seems like the penalty box depends on what you did and if you actually changed, not just a set timer.

People act like he committed murder instead of being a creep.

Holy crap, wait - "smaller shows"? I didn't know he went back to tiny clubs and stuff. That's actually wild to think about a guy that big just standing in front of 50 people at some basement comedy night. Tbh, most celebrities would probably try to jump straight back onto a Netflix special or a big tour and act like nothing happened. It's kind of a weird move but I guess it makes sense if you're actually trying to rebuild from the ground up. Ngl, that's more humble than I'd expect from someone in his position.
