I went from a cheap foam pad to a proper sleeping mat and it changed my whole backcountry game

I used this old blue closed cell foam pad for like 6 years. Just figured sore hips were part of camping. Then my buddy let me borrow his Therm-a-Rest inflatable on a trip in the Smokies last month. Woke up actually rested for once. Now I can't go back. Has anyone else had that kind of upgrade moment where you realized you were just suffering for no reason?

I bought a Therm-a-Rest NeoAir last year and @rowan969 I totally get what you mean about suffering for no reason, that foam pad was basically sleeping on concrete.

oh man @rowan969 i feel you on that. i had one of those old foam pads for years and waking up sore was just part of the deal. it's like you accept the pain because everyone says you'll get used to it but you never really do. switching to something with actual cushioning was a game changer for me. you look back and wonder why you put up with it for so long. glad markh85 finally upgraded too, sleeping on concrete is no joke no matter how tough you think you are.
