Car camping was 10x simpler before all this ultralight stuff

Back in 2009 I used to pile into my buddy's minivan with a canvas tent that weighed like 15 pounds and a coleman stove that barely fit in the trunk. We never worried about ounces or packed cubes, if it fit in the car, it went. Fast forward to last weekend, I dragged my 6 pound backpacking tent out for a car trip just because I got used to it, and honestly I missed the extra space and the old lantern that threw actual light. Do you guys still keep separate gear for car camping or did you all switch over to one kit for everything?

Everything gets optimized until we miss the stuff that just worked.
