I always thought you had to replace a whole shutter assembly on a Nikon F3 if the second curtain was slow.

A guy at the camera swap meet in Sacramento showed me you can often fix it by just cleaning the old grease off the curtain drum axle with a tiny bit of Ronsonol on a cotton swab. I tried it on a junker body and it brought the speeds back within spec after three careful cleanings. Has anyone else had luck with this instead of a full tear down?

Heard a similar story from a friend of william_garcia, who fixed his dad's old F3 with just a drop of lighter fluid on a toothpick.

I always thought that was crazy, but @avery_jackson, it really works!
