Saw some 'custom' cabinets at a high end kitchen showroom in Scottsdale that were just garbage
The drawer boxes were stapled together with 1/4 inch plywood and the face frames were just glued on butt joints, no mortise and tenon in sight. I mean, they were charging like 30k for this set. Has anyone else noticed a drop in real joinery at these fancy places?

My neighbor's custom kitchen from a similar showroom had drawer bottoms that fell out in under a year. They used that thin plywood you mentioned, it just can't hold weight.

Yikes, that sounds exactly like my old kitchen. I had a drawer full of pots that gave out, and it rained cookware. Felt like a cartoon character. That thin stuff is just cardboard pretending to be wood. You need a good thick base, especially for heavy dishes. My fix was just screwing in a piece of proper plywood from the hardware store. It’s held for years now, no more surprise avalanches.

Stapled drawer boxes? That's just lazy. For that kind of money you should get dovetails at a bare minimum.
