I thought my emergency fund goal was way too high... until my spreadsheet showed I'd already saved $1,200 without even noticing.

Seeing that number made me finally believe I could actually hit my $5k target, so what's a small habit that quietly builds your savings?

My trick is rounding down my checking account balance every time I check it. If it says $1,237, I just move $37 to savings in my head and update my spreadsheet with that fake lower number. It makes spending feel tighter and the savings pile up from those little mental shifts.

That's actually kind of genius, @wyatt_mitchell26, tricking your own brain like that. I'd probably just forget the fake number and spend the real amount anyway lol. Still, if it works, it works.

Honestly that's a huge win. Tbh I'm curious how your spreadsheet is set up to track that. Did you just link it to your bank account, or are you manually putting in numbers? I tried the auto link thing but it felt weird giving an app all my info.

Yeah skyler_jackson27 I just type it in so I actually see where the money goes.
