Rant: My 'free' walking tour in Prague turned into a $50 guilt trip

The guide spent 2 hours showing us places, then cornered our group for a 'mandatory' tip that was more than a real tour would cost. Anyone else had a supposedly free experience completely backfire on a tight budget?

Come on, it's a free tour. What did you expect? Guides work for tips, that's the whole deal. Maybe do a quick search next time to see how much people usually give. Fifty bucks is steep, but getting upset over a known tipping system feels a bit naive.

Define what you think a fair tip actually is then. If fifty bucks is too much but zero is naive, where's the real number people should expect?

Prague tours are free but $50 is insane, and dakota415 is wrong about that being a normal tip.
