Bought a $28 hostel padlock in Rome and it saved my trip, or did it just make me feel safe?
I dropped $28 on a heavy duty padlock at a hardware store near Termini station after a guy in my dorm had his bag swiped in Barcelona. Part of me thinks it was the best money I spent because I slept fine in 6 hostels across Italy and Portugal, but my buddy just used a $3 cable lock from a dollar store and had zero issues the whole trip. So is the fancy lock real security or just a $28 worry stone? Anyone got a story where cheap gear actually burned them?
