Unpopular opinion: Canned soup isn't the budget hero we think it is

I've been grabbing canned soup for quick meals because the price looks good. After a while, I noticed I was always thirsty and feeling sluggish. I checked the label and saw one can had over half my daily salt in it. That's when it hit me: I'm paying less cash but more in health. Now I boil my own soup with a bag of frozen veggies and cheap broth. It takes a bit more time but costs way less per meal. My energy is better and my wallet isn't empty. Don't fall for the cheap tag without looking at what you're really getting.

Same with canned chili, left me feeling so bloated. Switched to making a big pot of beans and rice instead, way cheaper and no gross side effects.

Honestly, canned stuff always sits like a rock in my gut too. Your beans and rice idea sounds way better.

Remember my friend who swore by canned soup for lunch? He felt so sluggish every afternoon until he tried @viola677's idea of prepping simple meals. Now he makes a big batch of chicken and rice on Sundays, and he says the difference is like night and day.

Totally get the salt thing. In my case, it was those instant ramen packs that made me feel awful. Swapping for quick veggie stir-fries helped a lot.
