Went from a 4 foot level to a laser on my last garage wall, and now I'm second guessing myself
For 15 years I checked every course with a 4 foot Stabila and my eye, and last month I finally bought a $200 rotary laser for a 30 foot garage wall in Bakersfield. Now the laser says I'm off by 3/8 inch at the far corner and I can't tell if my old method was hiding that all along or if the laser is reading the footing. Any of you made that switch and did it mess with your head too?
A 3/8 inch gap over 30 feet is nothing, that's about the width of a pencil eraser across your whole garage. Your old method wasn't hiding anything, it just wasn't nitpicking over stuff that nobody walking into a garage would ever notice. The laser is a tool, not a judge, so use it where it helps and don't let it talk you into redoing walls that were fine for 15 years.
