Just laid my 10,000th brick on the new library job downtown

I was keeping a rough count in my notebook and hit the number this morning on the third course of the north wall. It felt good to see that many bricks go up straight and true, especially on a public building. How many bricks do you think you lay in a normal week?

I felt that "my back hurts just imagining it" part. I helped my uncle build a patio one summer and just carrying those things from the pallet to the spot was brutal. The dust gets everywhere too, in your hair and your lungs. Hitting a number like that while keeping everything straight is a real skill. You must be wiped out.

Wow, ten thousand bricks is a crazy number to think about. My back hurts just imagining it. In a normal week I probably lay about zero bricks, unless you count the digital ones when I'm procrastinating on my phone. Seriously though, that's a lot of heavy lifting. Hope they at least gave you a high five or something for the milestone.

Ten thousand bricks is a number I can't even picture. I remember reading that the average brick weighs about four and a half pounds. That means you've lifted over twenty tons of material by hand just to get them in place. The sheer physical weight of that accomplishment is what stuns me.
