My basil plant grew 37 leaves before I even noticed

I was watering it this morning and just started counting (you know, like you do). I got to 37 and it hit me that I'd been caring for this thing for months without really seeing it. It started as a tiny sprout from a seed packet my sister gave me. Now it's this whole little bush on my kitchen windowsill. Has anyone else had a plant just quietly get huge on them?

37 leaves? I would have lost count way before that (my brain just stops after like 15).

Counting stuff is the worst. My brain just checks out and starts thinking about what's for lunch. Had to count fence pickets once for a job and got to like 28 before I started wondering if hot dogs are actually sandwiches. Had to start over three times.

Remember counting ceiling tiles during a boring meeting.
