Am I the only one who thinks misting plants is a total scam sometimes?
I tried misting my calathea three times daily for two weeks straight after all the plant gurus online swore by it, but the leaves still got crispy tips and I even saw some mold pop up on the soil. Meanwhile my buddy does nothing to his same plant and it looks perfect just sitting in a humid bathroom. Is high humidity really the answer or are we just making extra work for ourselves for no real gain?

And that's exactly how it goes with so many "life hacks" these days right? It's like people take a tiny grain of truth and blow it up into this whole complicated ritual. Misting makes sense if you're in a desert dry climate or something, but for most of us it's just extra work that causes more problems than it solves. I swear half the advice online is just people repeating what they heard from someone else who also never actually tested it.

Right there with you. Misting is a total joke for most plants. Those crispy tips? That's usually inconsistent watering or built up minerals in the water, not lack of humidity. The mold on the soil proves it - too much moisture sitting on the surface does nothing for the air around the leaves. Your buddy's bathroom trick is the real deal though, that's actual ambient humidity from steam. These online gurus love making simple care sound complicated so they can sell you a fancy mister. Honestly, just get a pebble tray or group plants together, way less work and actually helps.
