I used to think book club picks should be easy reads

My friend Sarah in our Denver group said we should tackle 'The Overstory' last year. I argued it was too dense for a monthly meet. She pushed, so we did it. After three meetings just on that book, the talk was the deepest we've ever had. Anyone else have a book that seemed hard but paid off big for discussion?

Totally get that. Honestly, I was in the same camp for a long time, always voting for the quicker reads. My old book club tried "Cloud Atlas" and I groaned about the time commitment. But man, untangling that thing together, talking about how all the stories linked up, it created this wild energy. We spent two months on it and nobody wanted to move on. Sometimes the tough book is the glue that makes the whole group click.

Oh man, my book club's "tough book" pick just made us all give up and watch the movie instead.
