How a controversial pick sparked our best book club debate ever!

I was concerned our discussion would fall flat, so I prepped some thematic questions to guide the conversation. It led to such vibrant exchanges that we're using this format for future meetings!

That point about limiting natural flow... I totally used to agree with that. But after seeing how our controversial pick sparked such a vibrant debate with prepped questions, I've changed my tune. We had this one question about moral ambiguity that opened up a whole tangent on character motives... it felt more focused, not less free. Specifically, having a few themes ready kept us from derailing into small talk and brought out deeper analysis I don't think we'd have reached otherwise.

Limit the natural flow? Sounds like a feature, not a bug.

Prepping questions can actually limit the natural flow of discussion.

Is prepping questions truly that restrictive in practice?
