Hit 50 book club meetings and just realized I was picking books all wrong

For two years I always chose the newest bestseller thinking it would spark good debate, but last month a member pointed out nobody actually finished the book because the writing was too dense. That tipped me off that I was prioritizing hype over readability for our group's mix of parents and night shift workers. Anyone else ever realize their book selection method was totally backwards?

You ever try picking books based on how tired people are? My buddy's group just reads short stories now.

Short story nights hit different after a long day too.

Honestly never thought of it that way before.
