That $150 belt sander I bought for one job is still collecting dust 5 years later

Bought a nice Porter Cable belt sander to strip paint off an old garage door. Figured it would pay for itself versus renting. Used it exactly that one weekend. Now it sits in my garage taking up shelf space. Anyone else got a tool they bought for a specific job and barely touched since?

Got a buddy who bought a tile saw for his bathroom reno. Took him like 3 years to finally finish the job and now the saw is basically a permanent shelf in his garage. Says he keeps thinking he'll need it again someday but honestly that day is never coming.

I rented one from Home Depot for my kitchen floor and honestly that was the way to go. I think it cost me like 60 bucks for a weekend and I was done cutting all the tile in maybe 4 hours. No way I would have gotten my money's worth buying one new especially when you factor in storage space. My garage is already a mess with lawn stuff and old furniture. I get why your buddy holds onto it though because once you own a tool it feels wrong to get rid of it. But rental places are perfect for stuff you use once every few years.
