I finally saw how much I was wasting on groceries every week

I was scanning my bank statement last Sunday and noticed I spent like $450 on food in one week for just me and my roommate. That hit me hard cause I thought I was being careful. Turns out I was buying all these fancy snacks and pre-cut veggies at the store near my apartment in Austin. I switched to Aldi and started doing meal prep on Sundays and now I'm down to $250 a week. Has anyone else noticed how much those convenience items add up without you realizing it?

Oh man, I feel you on that. But I gotta say $450 a week for two people sounds high even for Austin. I live in a cheaper area and my wife and I spend about $300 a week for the two of us and our kid. The real killer is those pre-cut veggies and bagged salads for sure. They charge you double just for someone else chopping them up.

Honestly, you're not wrong at all. We were the same way until we finally broke down and started buying whole veggies and a cheap mandoline slicer. It's a pain at first, but it saves us like $40 a week easily. The bagged salads are the biggest scam in the grocery store, I swear they charge $6 for what's basically a little lettuce and a seasoning packet.

$300 a week for 3 people? How are you not eating lentils every single day?
