PSA: My neighbor's lawn went from patchy to perfect in 6 weeks.
He started watering at 5 AM instead of noon like everyone else. Grass roots grew deeper, soil stayed cool. Has anyone else seen this big a change from just switching the time of day?

The early morning thing is wild, my neighbor swears by it but also said he accidentally watered at 5 PM once and the grass got all crispy and sad for a week. Guess timing really is everything with this stuff.

Started watering at 5 AM instead of noon" - that's the whole ballgame right there. I switched my sprinkler timer to 4:30 AM a couple years back and my lawn looked better within a month. The key is the water actually soaks in before the sun cooks it off. Noon watering just evaporates half the water before it hits the roots. Plus you're not fighting the wind as much early morning so it spreads even. Just make sure your timer's set to finish before sunrise so the grass dries during the day, otherwise you're asking for fungus.

Exactly this. My grass was sad patchy crap until i started watering around 5:30am. Within a month it looked totally different - greener, thicker, no more bare spots. The real shocker was how much less water i used too since it actually soaked in instead of running off.
