Tried to swap careers at 40 and my resume got roasted by a recruiter

I spent 6 months learning web development at night while working my warehouse job in Cleveland, then paid $200 for a professional resume review last Friday. The lady told me my whole layout was wrong and none of my warehouse experience translated the way I thought it did. Anyone else get blindsided like that when they tried to start over?

The lady has a point, warehouse work doesn't teach you web development.

Warehouse work gets you a paycheck, not a skill upgrade.

I worked at an Amazon warehouse in Phoenix for about 18 months back in 2019, and honestly I picked up way more than just a paycheck. Learning how to read a pick schedule and sort by zones felt like nothing at first, but it actually trained my brain to handle fast-paced multitasking. There's also the whole safety side of things - OSHA certs and learning how to operate a pallet jack or a sit-down forklift are real skills that translate to other jobs. My buddy moved from warehouse work to a shipping clerk role at a small business, and his time on the floor made him way better at inventory tracking. It's not all web dev or coding, but calling it zero skill upgrade just isn't true. You definitely gain some hands-on stuff that can open doors if you look at it right.
