Serious question, my coworker turned down a full time job with benefits and she seems happier than me now
She had been working per diem for about 2 years and finally got offered a full time spot with benefits last month, and she turned it down on the spot. Everyone figured she was nuts, but she told me the schedule was the reason, she would have lost control of her days off and honestly I get it. I sat with that for a week because I took the full time spot when I got the chance and now my whole life is built around 3 twelves in a row. She works when she wants, picks up what she needs, and still brings home close to the same money without the meetings. It made me wonder if the whole ladder thing is just something we agree to because everyone else does it. Has anyone here walked away from the stable option and regretted it, or is the other side actually better?
My uncle did the opposite. He chased the full time spot at the post office for years because his dad kept telling him that was the real job, the one with a pension. Got it at 44, hated every single day of it, and retired early with a bad back and a house he barely saw. Now he flips old tractors for fun money and says he should have done that at 30. The twist is his old per diem buddies from back then are making more now with way less stress, and he knows it. The ladder is real, but nobody ever checks where it's leaning before they start climbing.
