Picked the city job over the mountain town gig 3 years ago. Still wonder if I made the wrong call.

3 years is a solid chunk of time to be second guessing yourself. What's the ONE thing about the mountain town gig that still nags at you the most, like is it the actual work itself or more the lifestyle you imagined having out there? I mean city jobs have that steady paycheck and benefits you can count on but the trade off is sometimes feeling like a cog in a machine. Mountain towns are smaller so you might have had more say in how things got done or just more space to breathe. What detail from that other offer keeps popping back into your head?

But is the stable paycheck really freedom if you dread each morning?

Actually the mountain town lifestyle isn't always about having more say in how things get done. Small towns can be just as political and rigid as city jobs, just in different ways. The quiet and space you get can make up for it though, and that might be what keeps nagging at you after three years. Missing the slower pace and the outdoors access is probably harder to shake than any job duties would be. Sounds like the lifestyle trade off is what's really sticking with you, not the work itself.
