Paid $400 for a career coach and it was the worst money I ever spent

I was stuck in my job for 2 years and thought a coach could help me figure out my next move. She gave me generic advice like "update your resume" and "network more" - stuff I could google for free. After 4 sessions I was down $400 and no closer to a new job. Has anyone actually gotten real help from a career coach or did I just pick a bad one?

$400 for advice you could get from a YouTube video in 10 minutes, lol. Sounds like you paid for a motivational speech and got a bill instead.

Those YouTube gurus don't know your specific business numbers or your actual customers man. I paid $350 for a session with a local consultant who showed me exactly which products to cut from my inventory based on my own sales data. A general video can't do that. Plus the accountability part is real - when you pay someone you actually show up and do the work instead of bookmarking a video and forgetting about it. The networking alone from those sessions got me two new wholesale accounts that covered the cost ten times over. You're paying for someone to look at YOUR mess and tell you where the specific problems are, not just generic advice.
