Tool lending died in my street, and with it a piece of community

I've seen a shift where folks in my area just toss out broken items rather than trying to mend them together. Most people think this is progress, but I believe we're erasing chances for connection and passing on practical wisdom. Got a story about a time someone taught you a fix that meant more than just the repair?

Used to buy new until a friend fixed my bike with me.

Sometimes buying new just saves time and hassle.

Buying new can seem faster, but it often skips the chance to learn something useful. My neighbor showed me how to rewire a faulty extension cord last year, and now I can handle basic electrical fixes. That skill has saved me money and we check in on each other more often. The repair taught me more than just how to fix a cord.

Remember my friend whose laptop hinge broke? She almost bought a whole new one, but her cousin helped her order the tiny part and showed her how to put it in. Now she's fixed two more for other people and saved a ton. That whole thing made their family way closer, too. It's wild how fixing stuff can build those little connections you don't expect.
