The "perfect" memory box I built last month is now my biggest regret

Spent 30 hours organizing every photo and ticket stub into labeled folders, then put it in the hall closet. Last week I grabbed it to show my nephew a beach trip from 2011 and the glue on the labels had melted, sticking all the dividers together. Now I can't pull anything out without ripping it. I wish I had just dumped everything in a plain cardboard box like my grandma did, because at least hers still works after 40 years. Does anyone else have a storage idea that looked smart at the time but turned into a mess later?

My grandma's cedar chest of mystery photos is the exact same thing, just with less glue and more chaos. I spent a whole weekend three years ago sorting 500 pictures into those fancy magnetic albums, the ones with the sticky pages and plastic covers, and now half of them have yellowed and the other half are stuck to the pages like a bad permanent tattoo. Tried to peel one out last Christmas to show my niece her first birthday, and it tore right down the middle of her face, which was honestly kind of horrifying but also funny in a sad way. Meanwhile, my grandma's shoeboxes of loose photos are all still perfect, just faded around the edges, and you can pull any one out without a fight. I've learned my lesson, next time it's a plain cardboard box and a sharpie, no fancy labels, no sticky anything.
