The old man at the feed store who told me to stop babying my seedlings
Back in 2019 I was starting my tomato plants indoors with a heat mat, grow lights, the whole setup. This old farmer at the local co-op in Lancaster watched me describe my process and just said "You're raising houseplants, not vegetables. Put them outside in the wind for an hour a day starting at week two." I laughed it off but tried it the next spring and my stems got twice as thick. Has anyone else had some simple advice from an older grower that completely changed their method?

Bet that old timer knew his stuff. It's humbling when you realize you've been overcomplicating the whole thing.

Oh man, totally. It's like those old school guys figured out the simple stuff works best and we're out here trying to reinvent the wheel with fancy tools and apps. Kinda makes you wonder how many other things we're overthinking.

You got that right, Jake. I had a similar moment last week when an old mechanic showed me a trick with a piece of wire that saved me two hours of work. @murray.jana nailed it too - we get so lost in the apps and gadgets that we forget the basics are usually all we need. It's like every time I try out some new complicated method, I end up going back to what my dad showed me years ago. Pretty humbling to admit I waste so much time chasing flashy solutions when the simple answer was right there.
