The advice my dad gave me about buying tires was dead wrong

He told me to always go with the cheapest set because 'they all do the same thing' and I listened for years. Finally blew a tire near Flagstaff at 3am in the rain after only 18,000 miles on some no-name brand. Spent $400 on a tow and a motel that night, plus the new set I bought the next day from a real shop. Anyone else had to unlearn bad advice from someone you trusted?

Nah man, tires are literally the only thing keeping your car on the road.

Well, I have to disagree with "literally the only thing keeping your car on the road." Suspension and shock absorbers are doing a lot of that work too, especially if you hit a bump or a pothole. Without a good suspension system, your tires would bounce off the road surface and you'd lose control pretty fast. Tires are important, sure, but they're only one part of a bigger system that keeps you planted. If your shocks are shot, even brand new tires won't help you hold a turn.

Yo @the_ruby nailed it when he said tires are "literally the only thing keeping your car on the road." I learned that the hard way too, same thing happened to me with some bargain bin tires that started separating after like 15k miles. Never skimping on tires again after that mess.
