Ran into an old coworker at the hardware store last Saturday

She told me my old boss still talks about that time I fixed the drill press with a paperclip, and it made me realize I never give myself credit for the small stuff. Has anyone else had a random compliment hit way harder than you expected?

Paperclip fix probably wasn't as small as you think, most people would just call a repair guy. Boss still bringing it up years later means it saved him time and money, which is a pretty big deal. Maybe try writing down one "small" win each week, it helps you see the stuff you normally overlook.

Agree with the boss still bringing it up years later thing. That guy probably saved a good 200 bucks and a half day of waiting around for a repair guy to show up. Guess I should start writing down my "paperclip fixes" so I actually remember them when raises come up.

That's a solid idea with the weekly wins thing. @daniel140 I actually saw a study once that said people who track small accomplishments feel way more productive overall. Might give it a try myself.
