PSA: that weird app my credit union kept emailing about is actually real, and I almost missed out
I got 4 emails from my credit union in Denver about some new account verification thing and I deleted every one of them as a scam. Then my card got frozen at a King Soopers on a $31 grocery run and the teller told me I had to finish the setup or they couldn't lift it. Took 6 minutes on the app and I felt dumb for ignoring it since last October. Turns out it was just the new two step check they rolled out, nothing shady at all. Did anyone else get these and blow them off, or was I the only one?
Man, I have to push back on one thing here, it wasn't really a scam email problem so much as a "too many emails" problem. Credit unions send so much junk that a real account thing just blends in with the car loan offers and the surveys. So yeah you blew it off but I don't blame you one bit. Where you're a little off is thinking this was new since October, that two step check thing has been around forever, they just finally flipped it on for everyone at your bank. My sister's credit union did the same thing last spring and her card got locked at a gas pump. The lesson is more about reading the actual subject line than trusting every email, because some of them are real even when they look like spam.
