My Zelle transfer got stuck for 3 days and my rent was due
Last Tuesday I sent $1,850 to my landlord through Zelle and the money just vanished from my account with no sign of it on his end. I called my bank and they said it was pending a review for possible fraud, which made zero sense since I had sent him the same amount for 8 months straight. The payment finally landed Thursday night, but my landlord was texting me nonstop thinking I was trying to dodge rent. Has anyone dealt with a bank holding a Zelle payment like this, and is there a way to avoid it next month?
Did you see that thing on the news about Zelle scams getting so bad that the banks had to start flagging random payments? I read that the system watches for anything that looks off, even if it's the same person you pay every month. The problem is their fraud check doesn't know your landlord from a stranger, so a large amount can get frozen while they look at it. I heard some people have better luck sending a smaller test payment first or splitting it into two transfers. You could also ask your bank to whitelist him so it stops tripping the review every time.
