A cashier's comment about tap to pay got me thinking

I was at a coffee shop in Denver yesterday and the person in front of me was fumbling for their wallet. The cashier just said, 'You know, you can just tap your phone.' The guy looked surprised and said he didn't trust it. The cashier shrugged and said she sees it every day. It made me realize how much we in the payments world talk about adoption rates and security, but forget the simple human side. A lot of folks just don't get how the tech works, so they stick with what they know. I work on the backend of this stuff, but that two-second exchange was a good reminder that the real hurdle isn't always the tech itself. It's making people feel okay about using it. What's the best way you've seen a business explain contactless payments to unsure customers?

My bank sent a little comic strip with their new cards showing a phone tapping a reader. It was way less scary than the usual terms and conditions packet. Sometimes just showing the action without any tech words helps.

That's a smart way to handle it. Pictures really do cut through the confusion.

My pharmacy did that for flu shots.
