Wasted $60 on a fancy silicone baking mat that peeled apart after 3 uses

Bought this brand name mat from a kitchen shop in Austin because I thought it would be non-stick forever. After just three batches of cookies, the top layer started peeling off in strips. I should have stuck with my old parchment paper. Anyone else have bad luck with those expensive mats?

Well actually you probably didn't heat it up enough before your first use. Those mats need a proper seasoning cycle like a cast iron pan or they just fall apart. I got one of those cheap store brand mats two years ago and it's still going strong because I read the manual and baked it empty for 15 minutes at 400 degrees first. Also if you were using metal spatulas instead of silicone or wood that would definitely shred the coating. Three batches sounds like operator error not a manufacturing defect.

Tbh Knight.Felix makes a fair point about those cheap mats needing that first bake lol.

Right??? @knight.felix nailed it, I did the exact same thing with my first mat and it lasted forever after that empty bake. People just don't read the damn instructions and then blame the product when they wreck it with metal tools and no prep. Three batches is way too soon to give up unless you really messed up the initial heating.
