Am I the only one who thinks a bakery in Asheville is lying about making their own croissants
Stopped at a small bakery in Asheville last weekend and watched a guy carry in two big boxes from a food service truck out back. The boxes said frozen dough right on the side. Then I saw the chalkboard inside saying 'hand laminated daily.' I get that small places have to cut corners to stay open, but charging $6.50 for a croissant you thawed is a different thing. If you run a shop, where do you draw the line between saving money and lying to folks?
Watched a guy at a farmers market once sell "homemade" jam that had the Kroger label peeled off the jars, and people were eating it up with a spoon. Thing is, my grandma made jam every summer and hers never tasted like Smuckers, so you could tell. The whole hand laminated thing feels like the same move, just with better handwriting on the chalkboard.
