PSA: I had to choose between a stand mixer or a new oven last year.
My old oven's temperature was off by 25 degrees and my hand mixer died, so I spent the $600 on a new double wall oven instead. It was the right call because consistent heat fixed my sourdough issues, but I'm still mixing everything by hand. Anyone have a good, cheap stand mixer brand they trust for heavy dough?

What's the budget for cheap? My arms still hurt from last week's bagel dough.

Lol "arms still hurt" is such a mood, @gibson.avery. I saw a whole thread about this where people said cheap stand mixers under $200 often burn out with stiff dough like bagels. The motors just aren't built for it. You'd probably have to step up to a heavier duty model, which sucks budget wise. It's basically pay more now or replace a broken cheap one later. That arm pain might be the real cost saver for a while.

My old apartment had that same problem with cheap blenders. You buy the $40 one for smoothies, but the second you try to crush ice it sounds like a dying robot. It feels like everything is built for light use now. You either pay a lot upfront or you pay in small repairs and frustration.
