My stand mixer died mid-batch at 6 AM on a Saturday

I was making three loaves of brioche for a farmer's market order and the motor just gave out with a loud grind. It was a 10 year old KitchenAid that I got used, so I guess it had a good run. I grabbed a hand whisk and finished the dough by arm power, which took forever and made my shoulder sore for two days. Has anyone else had a big mixer fail at the worst possible time and have to jury rig a fix?

Man, that's rough. I mean, ten years out of a used KitchenAid is pretty solid though. At least you finished the batch, that's some serious dedication.

Wait, am I the only one who thinks buying a used KitchenAid and running it hard for a decade means you got your money's worth? @wadew51, I get that finishing by hand was a pain, but that mixer gave you way more than enough service for something you didn't pay full price for. Sounds like it's just time to get a new one, not a tragedy.

Gotta respect the hustle of finishing that dough by hand. That's a rough way to start a Saturday though lol. Hope the brioche still came out good for the market.
